Woodlawn Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House Wedding
Did ya hear? One of our weddings was featured in The Knot National Magazine a few months ago! It has always been a huge goal of mine and I can barely believe it's come true! If you haven't checked it out yet, Kimberly and Justin's outdoor summertime wedding at Historic Woodlawn Plantation, in Alexandria, Virginia is a stunner! Not only did a get to work with an incredible dream team but the bride and groom were absolutely breathtaking themselves!Kimberly Brown & Justin Dean exchanged vows at the historic site of Woodlawn Plantation, on July 1st, 2017, in Alexandria, Virginia. They made sure to design their special day including both personal touches that were incredibly unique to their family but also reflected their style as a couple.Justin’s father's family lives on farmland in Buckingham County, VA that was part of a land grant from the plantation master following the end of slavery. As African-Americans, they wanted to incorporate the tradition of "jumping the broom." Justin's dad provided them with a reclaimed oak beam from his family's historic tobacco barn, which they decorated with flowers to fashion as our broom. Not only that but Justin's father served as the officiant for their outdoor Summer ceremony. Kimberly had the double blessing of both her stepfather and her uncle walking her down the aisle. Her father passed away when she was very young, and so her dad's older brother represented him at thewedding. Kimberly's mother hails from the Caribbean island twin-nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Her father is from the great state of North Carolina (Go Tarheels). They wanted to make sure to incorporate elements from both cultures at the wedding, so they had Buttercream bakery put together a dessert table with a variety of treats that were inspired by our family’s roots.“When we began our wedding planning process, we knew we wanted a venue that is timeless, with an outdoor component, and would be a place that we could always return to. We visited a few places in Maryland and D.C., but as soon as we viewed this National Trust site, we fell in love with the history, look and feel of the property. Our design and decor was inspired by our love of clean lines, neutrals, and textured flowers. Were were hoping for a Modern English garden meets colonial Virginia. My favorite wedding detail was the boxwood seating chart wall with our hashtag (Making the Dean's List). I also liked our seating area, styled by Event Revolution.”Creative Team:Planning& Styling : Kelley Cannon EventsPhotographer:: Lisa Blume Photography Makeup: Carl Ray Makeup ArtistVenue: Woodlawn & Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighy House, Kathleen ScaleraFlorals: Sweet Root Village, Rachel Bridgwood & Lauren AndersonRentals: Event revolutionhttp://www.eventrevolution.comStationary: Emily Baird DesignsCake:Buttercream BakeshopCeremony Music: Sage String Quartet, Sean NeidlingerCatering: Rouge Catering, Kelly MerrillDJ: David Grimm, Bialeks MusicHair: Kalizya Hutchinson of David RiosWedding Gown: Vera Wang & Monique LhullierBridal Gown Boutique: Saks Jandel & Carine’s BridalBride’s heels: Manolo Blahnik
