NMWA Wedding with Roberts & Co.

Jamie and Kelly met at a party being held at Jamie’s house inAdams Morgan. Kelly had gone with her sister and a few friends. Kelly noticedthe polo and khaki wearing DJ in the corner of the room, and the rest washistory.

After looking at the Museum of Women in the Arts, Kelly couldn’t stop thinking about the venue, and, in particular, walking down the staircase and meeting her dad at the bottom. Jamie’s mother also has been heavily involved with the Smithsonian and has been a docent at the National Gallery of Art for more than 20 years and has always had a passion for the visual arts. Kelly’s grandmother was also a fantastic painter, and our vision was to have a couple of her paintings on display for the night in the Women’s museum. With all of this considered, whenever Kelly would go on a run, that is all she thought about and how perfect the venue was. They both knew it was the perfect fit after seeing it for the first time.

"I have always been close with my grandmothers and not having them at my wedding was difficult. I have always known that I wanted to incorporate elements of my grandmothers in the wedding and after seeing the venue I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted a painting or two of my grandmothers at the women in the arts museum. If she were alive today she would be over joyed to have her painting in a museum especially one dedicated solely to women in the arts.  My parents had to ship two paintings from north Carolina to be in the wedding. "

"My maternal grandmother and I had tea the last time that I saw her alive. She even gave a tea cup to my oldest sister on her wedding day. My oldest sister surprised me and brought the teacup to my wedding to share the memory of my grandmother. I also had my great grandmothers purse with me that she had made."

"My favorite memory from the wedding was when my family saw my grandmother’s paintings in the museum. They knew that they would be there, but I think finally getting to see her art work in a museum was a truly touching moment and one that I will never forget."

"Jamie’s grandparents were there (96 and 91 respectively). The readings we used reflected us- one from Winnie the Pooh to reflect Kelly as a teacher and a music lyric to reflect Jamie’s love of music. "

"Our first look was on our rooftop in the same spot that Jamie proposed. "

"Jamie made a song that he played for his mom on the piano since he was a kid, and produced that into the mother-son dance."

"I let my dad pick the song we danced to, and he picked the perfect song. He is not into music too much and took the time to listen to several songs before finding the perfect one. "

"The main goal for us was to combine a fun and memorable night for our guests but also to show off some personal and more sentimental parts of our lives. We thought the overall look reflected both the elegance of the space as well as the upbeat and fun atmosphere we wanted."
